19-Year-Old Charged With First Degree Murder in Overnight Shooting
On February 28, 2026 at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers with the Parkersburg Police Department responded to a residence in the 1000 block of 40th Street in Parkersburg, West Virginia, after receiving reports of an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Responding officers immediately rendered aid until personnel from the Parkersburg Fire Department and emergency medical services arrived and continued life-saving measures. Despite those efforts, the male victim succumbed to his injuries at the residence.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police said information regarding a possible suspect was relayed to additional responding officers and deputies with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 12:19 a.m., officers located and detained the suspect roughly one mile from the scene.
The suspect, 19-year-old Claudia Torres, has been charged with First Degree Murder.
Authorities said Torres was processed at the Parkersburg Police Department and transported to the Wood County Holding Center, where she is being held pending arraignment in Wood County Magistrate Court.
