Key Incidents Detailed by Grand Jury
Among the incidents cited:
On September 22, 2022, investigators allege that Salahuddin Carter and Jymir Burbage were involved in a double non-fatal shooting in the 1500 block of North 13th Street. An eight-year-old child was struck by a stray bullet while playing on the front steps and suffered a graze wound to the head. A second victim, who had been riding in a vehicle, was shot in the leg. The vehicle later crashed while en route to the hospital.
In another case, the Grand Jury alleges that Stephen Weddington and Jymir Burbage were involved in a December 7, 2023 homicide. Prosecutors allege that members of YBC mocked the victim and the victim’s workplace following the killing.
Evidence and Investigation
Prosecutors say ballistic evidence recovered from multiple crime scenes was analyzed and compared to fired cartridge casings to determine whether shootings were linked to the same firearms. Surveillance video from businesses, residences, city cameras, and police vehicles was also reviewed.
Officials credited witness statements and digital evidence processed through the Gun Violence Task Force’s forensic lab as critical to building the case.
Officials Respond
District Attorney Larry Krasner said the charges reflect a commitment to holding violent groups accountable.
“Our message to other groups who are engaged in violence: we will use every legal tool, resource and enforcement strategy to hold you accountable and seek appropriately lengthy jail time for the harm you cause,” Krasner said.
Assistant District Attorney William Fritze, Chief of the Gun Violence Task Force, called the case “a testament to the integral use of witness statements and digital evidence.”
Captain James Kearney of the Shooting Investigations Group said collaboration between agencies was key to the outcome.
“It’s because of the collaboration with our law enforcement partners that our city can sleep safer tonight,” Kearney said.
The case now moves forward in court.
