Man Sentenced to 43 Years for Killing Girlfriend’s Father During Domestic Dispute
On February 23, 2026, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that 27-year-old Terron Brown has been sentenced to 43 years in prison in connection to a fatal domestic shooting. The sentence follows Brown’s conviction for Second-Degree Murder and multiple additional felony charges stemming from the 2021 incident.
Ricardo Lopez Sr. was killed during the shooting. Another member of the Lopez family was shot and survived.
On November 20, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m., police said officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at a residence near 103rd Avenue and Indian School Road in Avondale, Arizona. Authorities determined that Brown, who was dating a member of the Lopez family, became involved in a verbal argument inside the home. During the confrontation, Brown pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking Ricardo Lopez Sr. and another family member.
Brown fled the scene with his infant child and was located several hours later near 104th Avenue and Indian School Road. When officers arrested him, he was still in possession of the child and the handgun used in the shooting.
Last fall, a jury convicted Brown of the following charges:
• One count of Second-Degree Murder, a Class One Dangerous Felony
• Three counts of Aggravated Assault, a Class Three Dangerous Domestic Violence Felony
• Two counts of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, a Class Six Dangerous Felony
“No one should ever fear for their life inside the sanctuary of their home, yet that is exactly what this domestic abuser did,” said County Attorney Mitchell. “When conflicts escalate to gun violence, the consequences are irreversible, and today’s sentence reflects the gravity of taking a life and our commitment to holding violent offenders fully accountable.”
