With deep sadness and heartfelt respect, we honor the life and legacy of Jonathan A. Dandes, a longtime leader in Buffalo’s civic and sporting community whose remarkable contributions touched countless lives. Jon’s passing marks the end of an era for the Western New York region — but his impact will be remembered with gratitude and admiration for generations to come.
Jon’s life was defined by unwavering dedication to service, leadership, and community building. For more than four decades, he was an integral force behind the success of the Buffalo Bisons, serving in executive roles including Vice President/General Manager of Stadium Services, Inc., Executive Vice President of the Rich Entertainment Group, and President of Rich Baseball Operations. His stewardship helped shape not just the Bisons organization but the very culture of professional baseball in downtown Buffalo at Sahlen Field.
Beyond his influence on the baseball field, Jon was a devoted civic leader whose guidance elevated many community institutions. He chaired and served on boards that span children’s museums, performing arts centers, regional economic partnerships, medical foundations, and tourism organizations. His deep commitment to Western New York extended into improving educational opportunities, supporting local nonprofits, and mentoring emerging leaders across sectors. It was this rare blend of business acumen, passion for community, and personal humility that made him a respected figure throughout the region.
Jon’s life was not only about what he achieved but also how he achieved it—with genuine warmth, integrity, and a generous spirit. Friends, colleagues, and community members often spoke of his ability to bring people together, elevate voices around him, and tackle challenges with tireless enthusiasm and thoughtful leadership. His contributions helped build a stronger, more vibrant Buffalo community, and his legacy will continue in the institutions and people he influenced.
