Mass shooting in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom kills 2, injures 7
A mass shooting in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom neighborhood early Saturday killed 23‑year‑old Genesis Tamar Jones and 42‑year‑old Dominic Antoine Jackson and left seven others wounded, police said.
Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards said officers responded to gunfire reported about 2:47 a.m. on North 18th Street, where an officer already in the area saw a large street fight and speeding cars before finding Jones suffering multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Edwards said. Jackson was later identified as the second fatality; both were from the Richmond area, with Jones listed as from Petersburg and Jackson from Henrico.

Edwards said nine people, ages 23 to 42, were shot, including four men and three women with non‑life‑threatening injuries and one woman in life‑threatening condition. Four of the wounded were transported by ambulance; three others arrived in private vehicles.
Authorities said the incident began as a street fight between two groups after nearby bars had closed at 2 a.m. and escalated when multiple people drew firearms and opened fire. Investigators recovered more than 50 shell casings and are reviewing surveillance footage and video from bystanders. No arrests had been announced as of Saturday afternoon, and police urged anyone with information to contact Major Crimes Detective J. DeBoard or Crime Stoppers.
