North Carolina Man Reported Missing was Shot and Killed After Armed Intrusion at Mar-a-Lago in Florida
A 21-year-old Moore County North Carolina man who had been reported missing by his family was shot and killed early Sunday morning after unlawfully entering the secured perimeter of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida.
According to the United States Secret Service, Austin Tucker Martin was armed with a shotgun and carrying a fuel canister when he attempted to enter the property near the north side of the estate at approximately 1:30 a.m. Agents, along with a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, ordered Martin to drop his weapons. Authorities state he refused to comply, and shots were fired.
Martin was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were in Washington, D.C., officials confirmed.
Federal authorities believe Martin may have traveled to Florida with the intent to harm the president. The investigation remains active.

Moore County Sheriff’s Office Statement
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that at approximately 1:38 a.m. on February 22, 2026, a relative of Martin approached a deputy at a local business to report him missing. He was subsequently entered into a national missing person database.
Following that report, federal authorities notified the Sheriff’s Office that Martin was the subject of an active federal investigation in Florida. At the request of federal investigators, the missing person case information was turned over to them.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office stated it had no prior history involving Martin before the missing person report and is not involved in the Florida investigation.
Officials advised that any further questions regarding the shooting or related investigative matters should be directed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Miami Field Office and the United States Secret Service.
The investigation remains ongoing.
