Locksmith Dies After Being Shot By Man Who Called For Help
Miami, Florida
A locksmith was shot in the head by a man who was locked out of his apartment, according to police.
At around 6:20pm on Friday, police arrived at 6355 SW Eighth Street after a 911 call came in about a shooting. Officers found Adrian Venero, 37, dead in the hallway of the 7th floor, according to the arrest affidavit.
Police say a witness was found holding a revolver. He told investigators that Luis Davis Lemus, 32, had said he’d hurt someone and fled the scene. Officers found 5 live rounds and one spent casing in the revolver.
The witness told police that he and Luis had been changing the lock on Luis’ front door. After installing the new lock, they accidentally locked themselves out of the apartment, so they called a locksmith to help them get in. Adrian arrived sometime later, pulling a Husky rolling tool bag.
Surveillance video showed the witness and Luis following Adrian to an apartment.
According to the witness, while Adrian was working on the lock, Luis pulled out a gun and shot Adrian in the head. Luis then ran downstairs and fled.
Investigators found Luis at the corner of Southwest 52nd Court and Seventh Street. He was wearing sneakers similar to those seen in the surveillance footage and was carrying a similar red backpack.
It is unclear if Luis and Adrian knew each other before Friday or why Luis allegedly pulled the trigger.
Luis is charged with second-degree murder. Jail records show he is at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
