A 46-year-old man was killed in an early-morning shooting Friday in Winston-Salem, prompting an active homicide investigation, authorities said. Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department responded around 5:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 4200 block of Brownsboro Road, where they discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. Officials later identified him as Ricardo Lamont Edwards. Detectives secured the area for several hours while crime scene investigators collected evidence and canvassed nearby homes for witnesses and surveillance footage.
Police stated that, based on preliminary findings, there is no indication of an ongoing danger to the public. However, investigators have not released details about what led to the shooting or whether Edwards knew the suspect.
