On February 4, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., police say officers responded to a shooting inside a parking garage at 2 Trans Am Plaza in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Upon arrival, they found a man shot inside his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as Obaidulla F. Shareef.
The suspect, 19-year-old Akrystal L. C-Woods appeared in DuPage County Circuit Court on February 20, 2026 for a pretrial detention hearing. She faces three counts of first-degree murder in connection with Shareef’s death. Judge David Schwartz ordered that she remain held in custody pending trial.
According to court documents, Shareef met C-Woods and another woman through the Tinder dating app. The three reportedly spent time together at a hotel in Oakbrook Terrace, went shopping, and later gathered in the parking garage to smoke marijuana.
Prosecutors allege that during the encounter, C-Woods took Shareef’s cellphone and attempted to transfer $200 to herself using CashApp. When Shareef retrieved his phone and exited the vehicle, authorities say C-Woods pulled alongside his car, rolled down her passenger window, and fired multiple shots using a stolen handgun.
Shareef was struck in the head. His vehicle rolled out of the garage, crossed a grassy area, and collided with another car. Witnesses discovered him slumped over the steering wheel.
Investigators say C-Woods and the other woman fled to Milwaukee following the shooting. She was later arrested there and extradited to Illinois.
During the hearing, the defense requested pretrial release with GPS monitoring and noted that C-Woods has no prior criminal record. The request was denied. Jail officials previously placed her on suicide watch, though her attorney stated she is not suicidal.
Court records list her name as Akrystal L. C-Woods, though she was temporarily listed as “Woods” while held in Milwaukee County.
