Maplewood Couple Charged After Video Allegedly Shows Assault on 10-Year-Old Child in Filthy Home

On February 1, 2026, police say officers responded to a report in Maplewood, Minnesota, after receiving information about a disturbing video allegedly showing a 10-year-old child being physically assaulted inside a residence. Authorities later recovered the video and identified the incident as occurring inside the home shared by the child, 31-year-old Amber Lynn Raymond, and her boyfriend, 25-year-old Basil Neil Woods.
According to the complaint, the video allegedly shows Woods entering a bedroom where the child was sleeping on the floor, wearing a mask and lightweight boxing gloves with minimal padding. He is accused of repeatedly punching the child in multiple areas of her body, including her shoulder, buttocks, arm, ribs, and the back of her head, while yelling at her throughout the assault. The child can reportedly be heard crying out in pain and attempting to shield herself with a blanket.
Investigators state that even as the child retreated and attempted to protect herself, Woods continued striking her while demanding verbal responses and threatening further harm. The complaint details multiple blows delivered in quick succession, including a strike to the head.
On February 4, authorities executed a search warrant at the residence. The home was described as being in severe unsanitary condition, with animal feces and urine throughout, a strong odor of garbage and waste, decaying food in the kitchen, and a refrigerator secured with a lock. Officials reported approximately 15 cats, a small dog, and a turtle living inside the home, with visible neglect in the animals’ living conditions as well.
During the investigation, Raymond allegedly admitted she was present during the assault and acknowledged that she asked Woods to carry it out. She reportedly told investigators that the incident was not intended to cause harm and described it as “playing around” using boxing gloves.
Amber Lynn Raymond has been charged with felony child endangerment, along with gross misdemeanor counts of malicious punishment of a child and child neglect. Basil Neil Woods has been charged with gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child.
Raymond is scheduled to appear in court on February 26. Woods was taken into custody on February 3 and is scheduled to appear in court on March 4.
