Two Teens Shot Each Other During Narcotics Dispute Before Car Crashes Into Home
On February 19, 2026 at 2:40 p.m., deputies with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1900 block of Yorktowne Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana after receiving a 911 call at about 2:30 p.m. reporting that a vehicle had struck a residence. Upon arrival, deputies found two males unresponsive inside a Toyota Camry. Both had sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased at the scene by the St. John Parish coroner.
The victims were identified as 18-year-old Daniel Robles De Medina and 17-year-old Gerard Garret.
Investigators said the Camry crashed into the home after the shooting. One person was inside the residence at the time of the crash, but no one inside the home was injured.
Based on physical evidence collected from the vehicle and cellphone conversations obtained through a search warrant, investigators determined the two teenagers shot each other during a dispute related to an illegal narcotics transaction.
Authorities recovered two firearms from inside the vehicle, along with spent shell casings that matched the recovered weapons.
The investigation remains ongoing.
