Woman Dies After Accidental Shooting at Decatur Home; Man Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter

On February 14, 2026, at approximately 5:27 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of North Summit Avenue in Decatur, Illinois, after receiving a report of a person shot inside the home. Upon arrival, officers located a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Alexandra Wilson.
According to police, 25-year-old Christian Luthy called 911 and reported that he had accidentally shot Wilson inside the residence. Court documents allege that Luthy told officers he had been working on an AR-15-style rifle while the two were seated together in a gaming room.
Investigators state that after finishing work on the firearm, Luthy allegedly pointed the rifle at Wilson and pulled the trigger, believing it was not loaded. One round struck Wilson in the torso.
Following the investigation, Luthy was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for questioning. He was later arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Court records indicate he is scheduled to appear in court in March.
