Aiden Deininger, 22, and Jeremiah Cleveland, 21, have been sentenced for their roles in the 2024 shooting of Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin, who survived the attack but was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Deininger received a sentence of 25 to 83+ years in prison, while Cleveland was sentenced to 20 to 43 years. Authorities say the sentences reflect the severity of the attack on a law enforcement officer and the danger posed to public safety.
The shooting occurred during an incident in 2024 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, when the detectives were responding to an ongoing investigation. Both men were charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, attempted murder, and related firearm offenses. Prosecutors emphasized that the violent act targeted an officer carrying out his duties, and the lengthy sentences were intended to serve as a deterrent to future attacks.
Community members and law enforcement officials have expressed relief that justice has been served, while also highlighting the bravery and resilience of Detective Gilmartin during and after the incident.
The court proceedings also included victim impact statements, where Detective Gilmartin and his colleagues described the lasting physical and emotional effects of the attack.
