Authorities say at least three people have been killed and three others remain in critical condition following a shooting at a hockey rink in Pawtucket this afternoon. Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of gunfire erupted inside or near the facility, which was occupied at the time.
First responders treated numerous victims on site before transporting the injured to area hospitals. Officials described several of the wounds as life-threatening. The identities of the victims have not yet been released pending notification of families.
Law enforcement quickly secured the rink and surrounding area, urging the public to avoid the vicinity while tactical units cleared the building. It is not yet clear whether the suspect has been apprehended, fled the scene, or if more than one shooter was involved.
