A 21-year-old man was killed and another person was wounded in a Friday night shooting near a South Dallas park, according to police. Officers responded shortly before 11 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the area of Wahoo Park on Elsie Fay Heggins Street, where they found one victim unresponsive.
Authorities identified the deceased as 21-year-old Jackie Jernigan, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A second adult male victim left the area in a private vehicle and later arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. His identity and current condition have not been publicly released.
Investigators say the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, including whether the victims were specifically targeted or if multiple individuals were involved. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses.
No arrests have been announced. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.
