Pulaski Man Charged With Felony DWI After Highway Struggle in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD — New Hartford Police say a Pulaski man is facing a felony charge and several other counts after a DWI traffic stop that escalated into a struggle Thursday afternoon.
Police say officers stopped a vehicle around 5:00 p.m. on Commercial Drive near State Route 840 after observing multiple traffic violations. The driver was identified as 57-year-old John Holbrook of Pulaski.
Investigators say Holbrook was driving with a permanently revoked license tied to a prior DWI case, and officers reported signs of impairment during the stop. Police say when an officer began standard field sobriety tests, Holbrook became combative and fought while being taken into custody.
Police say Holbrook also attempted to charge back toward his vehicle near the highway, endangering himself and the officer, before he was subdued and arrested.
Holbrook is charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations. He was processed by New Hartford Police, taken to the Oneida County Jail, and later held on bail following arraignment in CAP Court.
