Man Accused of Murder-for-Hire Plot Targeting Ex-Girlfriend and Rivals Arrested Near Binghamton

On February 12, 2026, authorities announced the arrest of a man accused of attempting to orchestrate the murders of his ex-girlfriend and two men she had dated following their breakup.
Investigators say 41-year-old Eric Berkowitz allegedly offered $5,000 to a man to kill three individuals who live just outside Binghamton, New York.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Berkowitz provided the man with a firearm, a cellphone, and the names of the intended targets. Detectives allege he instructed the man to set fire to the home and shoot whoever came outside, reportedly stating he would “take care of the girl himself.”
Authorities said Berkowitz had been in a seven-year relationship with the woman and became enraged after she later dated two other men. However, the individual Berkowitz allegedly tried to hire contacted police instead of carrying out the plan.
Berkowitz was taken into custody while riding in an Uber. Police say he was found in possession of a firearm, a large amount of cash, and suspected crack cocaine. The Uber driver reportedly told investigators the destination was Endicott.
He is charged with three counts of solicitation for murder and attempted murder. Berkowitz is being held without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month
