Authorities have identified the two people found dead in an apartment over the weekend as Kevin Crockett, 35, and Ashley Rice, 38, following what investigators believe was an apparent murder-suicide.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, troopers from the Newport station were dispatched around 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, to an apartment along Susquehanna Trail in Watts Township, after receiving reports of a serious incident. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered both individuals were deceased.
Investigators say Ashley Rice died from a gunshot wound, and Kevin Crockett later died by suicide after shooting her. Authorities believe the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between the two.
The scene was secured as members of the Pennsylvania State Police Major Case Team assisted the Newport Criminal Investigation Unit with evidence collection and interviews. The Perry County Coroner responded to the apartment, and the Perry County District Attorney’s Office has been consulted as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials confirmed that next of kin have been notified. At this time, no additional details have been released.
