The severity of the pileup forced the closure of both the northbound and southbound lanes between Exit 78 and Exit 88 for several hours, from approximately 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Amid the chaos and destruction, nine other individuals were injured and transported to local hospitals. Their conditions had not been released at the time, and the crash remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
