The Laketon community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Christopher Mason Grindle, 17, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating crash on the evening of April 29, 2026, in rural Wabash County.
According to authorities, emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 6:00 p.m. to the area of County Road 700 West, just south of County Road 850 North, following reports of a serious single-vehicle crash. Investigators said a 2013 Chevrolet Caprice traveling southbound left the roadway and struck a tree.
Christopher, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wabash County Coroner’s Office, leaving family, friends, and the entire Laketon community in deep shock and grief.
The driver, 19-year-old Jonathan Patton of Laketon, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a regional hospital. Authorities stated his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Indiana State Police, led by Master Trooper Jeremy Perez, continue to investigate the crash. Officials have indicated that speed and possible impairment are suspected contributing factors, though the investigation remains ongoing pending further analysis and toxicology results.
