According to Maryland State Police, the crash occurred around 9:16 p.m. on April 30 at the intersection of Maryland Route 228 and Mill Hill Road. Investigators said Murphy was operating a Yamaha motorcycle when it collided with a Ford Explorer that was attempting to make a left turn onto Mill Hill Road from westbound Route 228. Authorities noted that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 69-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision.

The roadway remained closed for several hours as investigators carefully processed the scene. The crash remains under active investigation by Maryland State Police.
