The victim, Kayden Kabashi, had just celebrated his 19th birthday on Sunday, April 19, before the tragedy unfolded on Monday, April 27, at the intersection of Route 55 and Old Route 55 in Pawling.

Kabashi had left home that day on his motorcycle to head to work but never arrived, his family said in a GoFundMe page created to help with medical expenses.

CRASH DETAILS

According to the fundraiser, a driver allegedly pulled out into his lane, causing a head-on collision. The impact reportedly shattered his helmet and ejected him from the motorcycle, which then caught fire.

Kabashi suffered catastrophic injuries, including a hemorrhagic stroke and multiple skull fractures. He was rushed to the ICU, where his family says he went into cardiac arrest multiple times before being revived.

MEDICAL CONDITION

Days later, on Thursday, April 30, the family shared a devastating update, stating:

“As of today… we were told that Kayden’s heart is only working because of the machines and life support. He is going to go into organ failure probably sometime soon, slowly.”

The family said Kabashi was expected to be taken off life support shortly.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE

Kabashi is being remembered by loved ones as energetic, kind, and full of life. Family and friends described him as a “crazy, funny, loving, and free spirit.”

He was one of four siblings and is being mourned as a deeply loved son, brother, and friend.

The GoFundMe campaign has received strong community support, raising more than $54,000 toward a $200,000 goal as of Friday morning, May 1.

More details about the crash have not yet been released.
