With overwhelming sorrow, family, friends, and community members are mourning the tragic loss of Teresa D. Bretherick, a 61-year-old woman from Saint Joseph, Tennessee, whose life was taken following a devastating crash on U.S. Highway 43 near Killen, Alabama.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the fatal collision happened at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, near the 330-mile marker, about three miles north of Killen. Teresa was driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler when it was struck by a 2016 Jeep Cherokee driven by an 18-year-old from Lexington.
Investigators say the impact was violent. Authorities confirmed Teresa was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from her vehicle during the crash. First responders arrived to a heartbreaking scene, working urgently to provide aid as the reality of the wreck unfolded.
Due to the severity of her injuries, Teresa was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital, where medical teams fought to save her life. Despite every effort, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The tragedy did not end there. Several others were also injured in the crash. The 18-year-old driver of the Jeep Cherokee and an 18-year-old passenger were both hurt and transported to a local hospital for treatment. In addition, Kimberly Spears, 57, of Florence, a passenger in Teresa’s Jeep Wrangler, was also injured and airlifted to Huntsville Hospital.
Now, the aftermath is filled with grief.
