With heavy heart and profound sorrow, we remember and honor the life of Jaykub E. Anderson, 32, a resident of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, whose life was tragically and suddenly cut short in a devastating crash in Argyle, Wisconsin.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal crash occurred on Thursday along the 5000 block of State Highway 81 (STH 81). Investigators believe the incident happened in the early morning hours, around 5:30 a.m., when Jaykub was operating a 2012 Peterbilt quad-axle milk truck traveling westbound.
For reasons still under investigation, the truck left the roadway on the north side of STH 81. The vehicle then traveled through a ditch for a short distance before continuing toward the edge of an abandoned quarry. The truck ultimately went over the edge and fell into the quarry below, resulting in a violent and catastrophic impact.
Authorities say the truck overturned upon hitting the quarry floor, and the force of the crash caused the milk tank—reported to be at least partially loaded—to separate from the truck’s frame. The vehicle sustained extreme and extensive damage in the crash.
Emergency response began just before noon, when Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, the Argyle Fire Department, and Argyle EMS were dispatched to the 5000 block of STH 81 after reports of a serious crash. Additional assistance was provided by the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Lafayette County Highway Department, all working together at the difficult scene.
Despite the rapid response and recovery efforts, Jaykub E. Anderson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office. Officials confirmed he was the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Due to the severity and location of the wreck, recovery operations were complex and time-consuming. State Highway 81 was reduced to a single lane for several hours as investigators documented the scene and crews worked carefully to remove the heavily damaged truck from the quarry area.
At this time, authorities have not released further information regarding what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, and the investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine all contributing factors.
Beyond the investigation, the loss of Jaykub Anderson is being deeply felt by those who knew him. He is remembered as a hardworking individual whose life ended in a sudden and tragic moment, leaving behind grief, questions, and heartbreak for his family and loved ones.
