Authorities say the crash occurred shortly before 7:00 a.m. on April 26 when Grannen’s Ford Model T–style “T-Bucket” hot rod crossed the center line for reasons still under investigation and struck an oncoming Ford Expedition. The impact was severe, and Grannen was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office. The occupants of the SUV were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team are reconstructing the crash and examining potential contributing factors, including mechanical failure, medical emergency, driver fatigue, or roadway conditions. An autopsy has been conducted, with toxicology results pending.

Grannen was widely known in Midlands automotive circles as a devoted classic car builder and enthusiast. Friends and fellow hobbyists describe him as a hands-on craftsman who personally constructed and maintained his prized T-Bucket hot rod over many years, often attending local car gatherings and sharing his passion for vintage automotive engineering.

Community members from Lexington and Camden have expressed shock and grief, with informal tributes already emerging among local car enthusiasts. A memorial gathering is expected to be organized in the coming days.

Grannen is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
