The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m., according to a Tuesday press release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators reported that Seth Hodgkins of Greenwood was traveling north on Route 85 on a motorcycle when he collided with a southbound 2012 Toyota RAV4. The SUV, driven by 23-year-old Seth Thayer of Raymond, was attempting to turn left onto Tarkiln Hill Road.

After the initial impact, Hodgkins was ejected from his motorcycle and struck by a second vehicle, a 2015 GMC Terrain driven by 55-year-old Christopher Akers of Casco, who was traveling south behind the RAV4. Hodgkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was wearing a helmet and said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Windham Police Department’s crash reconstruction team, continues to investigate the incident.

Hodgkins, who served as an EMT with the Buckfield Fire Rescue Department, was remembered by Chief Blaquiere in a Facebook post:

“It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden loss of EMT Seth Hodgkins. Seth was tragically taken from us far too soon, leaving behind a department, family, and community who will deeply feel his absence. He was more than just an EMT—he was a friend, a co-worker, and someone who answered the call to help others without hesitation. His commitment to serving his community and caring for those in need will never be forgotten.”

The chief added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Seth’s family, friends, and all his co-workers at Buckfield Fire Rescue Department and Maine Health EMS – Stephens (PACE) during this incredibly difficult time. Rest easy, Seth. We’ll take it from here.”
