An 18-year-old from Wales has been given a life sentence for killing his mother in a planned attack.
Tristan Roberts received a minimum term of 22-and-a-half years at Mold Crown Court today, according to the BBC. He pleaded guilty to the murder of 45-year-old Angela Shellis, who worked as a teaching assistant at Rhyl High School.
Roberts carried out the killing in the early hours of October 25, 2025. Court details show he kept his mother inside their home for several hours, then lured her out on the pretense of getting medical help for her knee injury. She was using a crutch at the time. Neighbor footage and CCTV captured them leaving the house around 3 a.m. and heading toward the Morfa Nature Reserve.
Once there, he attacked her with a hammer. The court heard he announced his plans on the Discord app beforehand, changing his status to “Tonight’s the night.” He also recorded the assault with a message saying he was going to murder her with a sledgehammer and another afterward saying the job was done. Her body was found later that morning by dog walkers.
After the attack, Roberts went back home alone. He later used his mother’s phone to reply to messages from his older brother Ethan, claiming she was asleep and everything was okay. He even added a laughing emoji when his brother expressed worry. Roberts also posted about the killing on Discord with graphic details.
