What once appeared to be an idyllic life in a multi-million dollar San Francisco home has been revealed as a deeply troubled story following the deaths of Paula Truong, her husband Thomas Ocheltree, and their two daughters, Alexandra, 12, and Mackenzie, 9.
To neighbors and acquaintances, the family seemed to embody success and stability. However, beneath the surface, financial hardship and mounting pressure had taken a severe toll. The couple had faced a series of failed business ventures, including a group of coffee shops that shut down and an unsuccessful attempt to convert a local deli into an upscale liquor store. By October 2025, their situation had worsened significantly, with their home foreclosed and debts reportedly reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Concerns grew when Thomas’ brother, Robert, was unable to contact him. On October 6, Robert visited the family home, where he encountered Paula. She remained outside, did not invite him in, and offered an explanation that Thomas was returning from a golf tournament but had lost his phone. Robert later recalled the interaction as unusual, noting that all the curtains were drawn.
Two days later, still unable to reach his brother, Robert returned and forced entry into the home. Inside, he made the devastating discovery of all four family members deceased. Authorities later confirmed that the two young girls were found in their beds with gunshot wounds, while Thomas was also found fatally injured with a firearm nearby. Paula was discovered in the garage.
Following a detailed investigation, the medical examiner concluded that Paula was responsible for the deaths before taking her own life. The case has left the community in shock, serving as a somber reminder that unseen struggles can exist even behind the most outwardly perfect lives.
