A 20-year-old Miami mother walked out of court without any prison time after she admitted to trying to set up the killing of her three-year-old son through a fake online site.
According to NBC 6 South Florida, Jazmin Paez submitted the request back in 2023 on rentahitman.com, a satirical website that doesn’t actually hire out killers. She asked for the job to be done before the week was over and threw in photos of the boy along with exactly where he could be found.
The site’s owner, Robert Innes, said most messages he gets are jokes, but this one had real names, addresses, and other details that made him flag it to police right away. That led to Paez’s arrest in July 2023.
On Monday she pleaded guilty to soliciting first-degree murder, unlawful use of a communications device, and tampering with evidence. She had been staring down up to 40 years behind bars.
Prosecutors cut her a plea deal instead. The judge gave her a withhold of adjudication, so she won’t end up with a felony conviction if she stays clean. Her sentence calls for two years of community control, 12 years of reporting probation, and mandatory behavioral therapy that keeps going until it’s no longer needed.
Paez’s parental rights to the child were already terminated in a separate dependency case. The boy has since been adopted by her mother, and she’s not allowed any contact with him until her probation runs out around 2040. She lives with her biological father now.
In court Paez told the judge she has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
