Toledo police arrested a local mother after they say she drove her seven children to an internet cafe, left them in the vehicle without car seats, and went inside to gamble for about 40 minutes.
According to reports 37-year-old Racqual Roniquel Hicks pulled up to Luna’s Internet Cafe around 9:20 p.m. on March 19th with the kids ages 15, 13, 10, 6, 2, 1, and 11 months. Police allege she was driving on a suspended license and had none of the children secured properly.
Officers say Hicks left the group unsupervised in the car until roughly 10 p.m., creating what they call a substantial risk to their health and safety. She now faces seven counts of child endangerment.
Hicks was booked into the Lucas County Corrections Center that night. The next day in Toledo Municipal Court, she pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Court records show she was released on her own recognizance but must wear a GPS monitor, and a public defender was appointed to her case.
No other details have been released about how police got the call or what happened with the children afterward. The case is still moving through the courts.
