The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has arrested 21-year-old Steven Dodson Jr. in connection with the fatal shooting of 2-year-old A’mahri Robinson during a domestic dispute Sunday night at the Valencia Way Apartments on Labelle Street.
According to authorities, the incident began as an argument between adults inside the residence. During the dispute, a gun discharged, fatally wounding A’mahri. The child was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead. Two other children under the age of 10 were present at the time but were unharmed.
Dodson fled the scene following the shooting but was apprehended overnight with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals within 24 hours. He is now facing multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, child endangerment, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Court records indicate Dodson has a criminal history, including a 2024 prison sentence for robbery, misdemeanor domestic battery charges, and other firearm-related offenses.
Family members described A’mahri as a joyful and lively toddler who brought happiness to everyone around him. “When I got the news at midnight, I broke down crying… It’s just too much,” said family friend Wilson. Robinson’s aunt has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral and memorial costs.
JSO is continuing its investigation and searching for another adult who left the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information to call 904-630-0500. Officials confirmed that all remaining occupants at the apartment are cooperating with investigators.
The family has requested privacy as they begin planning funeral services and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community. “Your kindness and support mean more than words can say,” the fundraiser reads.
