University of Alabama Student May Have Been Under The Influence.

James “Jimmy” Gracey, the 20-year-old University of Alabama junior from Elmhurst, Illinois, died after he fell into the sea near a popular Barcelona nightclub during spring break, but authorities say they haven’t shut the door on possible drug or alcohol involvement.
Gracey had flown over to visit friends who were studying abroad. He was out at the Shôko beachfront club right by Port Olímpic early that Tuesday morning. Around 3 a.m. on March 17th, he got separated from the group and never made it back to their Airbnb a couple miles away in Ronda de Sant Pere. Security cameras picked him up walking alone toward the rocky breakwater along the coast.
His body showed up two days later, on Thursday, in about 13 feet of water off nearby Somorrostro Beach. Divers pulled him out around 6 p.m. local time. His wallet floated close by, still packed with cash, credit cards and his ID, according to sources. His phone turned up on the street and ended up with a guy who has a theft record. That man got arrested, but police say he had no connection to what happened to Gracey.
Catalan police have publicly called it an accidental drowning based on the footage that shows him falling in by himself. But privately, investigators are keeping an eye on whether drugs, booze or even something slipped to him at the club played a role in why he wandered off disoriented.
Gracey studied accounting and was the chaplain for the Alpha Phi Chapter of Theta Chi fraternity back at school. His family released a statement saying he was a deeply loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, and they’re struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss. They thanked everyone for the support and asked for privacy while they grieve.
