The Yorktown, Virginia, community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Bryson John Light, a 10-year-old fourth grader at Yorktown Elementary School, whose life touched countless people despite his young age. Bryson’s passing has left his family, classmates, teachers, and neighbors with profound sorrow as they remember a boy who brought joy, kindness, and energy everywhere he went.
Bryson was known as a vibrant and adventurous child who loved being active and spending time outdoors. Among his greatest passions was football. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Washington Commanders, proudly cheering for the team and sharing his excitement for the sport with friends and family. Recently, he had begun playing in a recreational football league, and he eagerly looked forward to every practice and moment on the field. Being part of the game filled him with pride and excitement.
In addition to football, Bryson also enjoyed swimming and was an active member of his neighborhood swim team. He loved the camaraderie of being around his teammates and the joy of participating in something he truly enjoyed. Whether at the pool, on the field, or playing with friends in the neighborhood, Bryson’s enthusiasm for life was unmistakable.
Neighbors often saw Bryson riding his bike through the streets, exploring and enjoying the simple adventures of childhood. His cheerful presence was a familiar and welcome sight in the neighborhood. Beyond his playful spirit, Bryson was also known for his kindness and willingness to help others. He often jumped in to assist neighbors with yardwork or happily joined in while someone was cooking on the grill. His caring nature made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
Perhaps the role Bryson cherished most was being a big brother. He adored his little sister and took great pride in looking after her. The bond they shared was filled with love, laughter, and companionship. To his family, Bryson was a bright light whose affection and joy filled their home every day.
His sudden passing has left an unimaginable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Teachers remember him as a joyful student, friends remember the laughter they shared, and neighbors remember the kind-hearted boy who was always eager to help.
In the wake of this tragedy, the community has come together to support Bryson’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Donations are being collected to help with funeral and memorial expenses and to provide support as the family navigates the painful days ahead.
