Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon near Hebron Road in Hendersonville, prompting a large police response in the area.
According to the Hendersonville Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2026, to the Hebron Terrace Apartments after a 911 caller reported a man armed with a knife.
When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they encountered the suspect outside. Police say the individual approached officers while holding the knife, creating what authorities described as an immediate threat. In response, one officer discharged their weapon, striking the suspect.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, and the suspect was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment. Officials have not yet released the suspect’s condition.
As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings across North Carolina, the investigation has been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI). SBI agents will conduct an independent review of the incident, including collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and examining body-camera footage and other available video.
Authorities say a heavy law-enforcement presence remains in the area while investigators process the scene and gather additional information. Residents and drivers are being asked to avoid the Hebron Road and Hebron Terrace Apartments area to allow investigators to work safely.
Further details, including the identity of the suspect and the officer involved, have not yet been released. Officials say additional updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
