Police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred late Tuesday night in Owensboro, leaving one person dead and another hospitalized with serious injuries.
According to the Owensboro Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:23 p.m. to the 500 block of Orchard Street after receiving reports of gunfire involving two victims.
When officers arrived, they located two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel responded quickly to the scene. One of the victims was pronounced dead, while the second victim was transported to Owensboro Health, where they are currently listed in serious condition.
Investigators from the department’s Criminal Investigation Unit and Evidence Collection Unit responded to the location to process the scene. Detectives are currently collecting physical evidence, interviewing potential witnesses, and working to determine what led up to the shooting.
Authorities say preliminary information does not suggest an ongoing threat to the public, though the investigation remains active. Police have not yet released the identities of the victims as officials work to notify family members.
The Owensboro Police Department is asking anyone who may have information about the incident to contact investigators as they continue working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
