Kojuan Miles, 36, died on Monday, March 9, 2026, following a police standoff in Houston, Texas. Authorities confirmed that Miles was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire with officers after an hours-long barricaded situation at a residence in southeast Houston.
According to officials, multiple law enforcement agencies arrived at the home to serve a warrant. During the encounter, Miles allegedly armed himself with several weapons, leading officers to request assistance from the Houston Police Department’s SWAT team. Negotiators attempted to communicate with him for more than an hour in an effort to peacefully resolve the situation.
The standoff ended when Miles exited the residence carrying what authorities described as a high-powered rifle and opened fire toward officers. A SWAT officer returned fire, and Miles was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Miles was born in 1989 and spent much of his life in Texas. Public records show that he had prior criminal convictions and had been listed on the Texas Sex Offender Registry following earlier offenses. In 2014, a Harris County jury sentenced him to more than two decades in prison after he was convicted of compelling prostitution involving a minor and sexual assault of a child. The victim in the case was a 15-year-old girl. His appeal was later denied.
Authorities confirmed that Miles was 36 years old at the time of his death. His passing followed the events of the standoff, which is currently under review as part of the standard investigation into officer-involved shootings.
Officials say the case is being examined by multiple investigative units to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident. Body-camera footage from the responding officers is expected to be released following the department’s standard review process.
Further details regarding memorial services or arrangements have not been publicly announced.
