According to the Houston Police Department, officers with the Southwest Patrol Division responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Westridge Street after reports of a person shot in a parking lot.

When officers arrived, they found a woman sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. The suspected shooter had already fled the scene by the time police arrived.

Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Authorities say the woman, believed to be in her mid-30s, is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigators say preliminary information suggests the suspect had been sitting in the backseat of the same vehicle with the victim shortly before the shooting occurred. At some point during the encounter, the suspect allegedly fired the shot and then ran from the scene on foot.

The suspect was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie, but no further description has been released as detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.

The case is being investigated by the Major Assaults Division of the Houston Police Department. Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting and whether the victim knew the suspect.
