A late-night shooting on the north side of Milwaukee has left two people dead and another man in police custody as investigators work to determine what led to the violence.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, officers were dispatched just before 10:30 p.m. on Monday, March 8, to the area near Darien Street and Green Tree Road after reports of gunfire.
When police arrived, they discovered two victims suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Authorities confirmed the victims were 31 and 33 years old. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members have identified one of the victims as Giovonni McVicker, whose death has left loved ones and friends grieving. The identity of the second victim has not yet been officially confirmed as investigators continue working to notify family members.
Police say a 27-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the shooting shortly after the incident. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and determine what circumstances led to the deadly encounter.
The case has been referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, which will review the evidence and decide what criminal charges, if any, will be filed.
Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Milwaukee police.
