“Possible armed suspect on MDC’s Homestead Campus. Go into the nearest building or room and lock the door if possible. Stay in offices or classrooms. If not on campus, avoid the area until further notice. Wait for the all-clear notification from College officials or local authorities,” the alert stated.

The warning was issued through the college’s emergency notification system, which is designed to quickly inform students, faculty, and staff of threats that could impact campus safety. Miami Dade College uses text messages, emails, and other alerts to notify the campus community during emergencies.

Initial reports indicated the situation involved a possible shooting near the Homestead campus, though officials had not confirmed details about the incident or whether anyone had been injured.

Law enforcement agencies responded to the area to search for the reported suspect and secure the campus. Authorities urged people who were not on campus to avoid the area while officers worked to assess the situation.

As of Monday afternoon, officials had not released additional details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the report. Students and staff were advised to remain sheltered until an official “all clear” message was issued by college officials or local authorities.

The situation remains under investigation and more information is expected as authorities provide updates.
