A 38-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday evening following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 581 near the entrance ramp to Valley View Mall, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 5:09 p.m. on March 5 in the southbound lanes of Interstate 581 near the entrance ramp to Valley View Mall in Roanoke County.
According to investigators, a 2025 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and changing lanes when it struck the rear of a 2011 Ford Explorer.
The motorcyclist was identified as Anthony Lee Spencer, 58, of Roanoke. Authorities said Spencer was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver of the Ford Explorer was injured in the crash and transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. Officials reported the driver’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
