Two Arrested in Norristown Shooting That Paralyzed Woman; Three Others Charged in Gun Trafficking Case
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Norristown Police Chief Michael Trail announced the arrests of Ziyker Washington, 20, and Benjamin Lee, 18, both of Norristown, in connection with a January shooting that left a 21-year-old woman paralyzed.
Police say the shooting occurred Jan. 4 at a Shell Gas Station. Investigators say Washington opened fire at a vehicle in the parking lot, striking Jayla Dinolfi, who was shot in the back and paralyzed. Two others were also injured.
Authorities later recovered a Springfield Armory 10mm handgun tied to the shooting during the suspects’ arrest in Philadelphia.
Prosecutors say the firearm was part of a straw purchasing and gun trafficking operation involving Dayvir Hardcastle, 24, of Norristown; Derek Moore, 27; and Ramel Waddell Jr., 24, both of Philadelphia.
Washington faces multiple charges including aggravated assault and illegal firearm possession, while Lee is charged with firearms violations. Hardcastle faces several gun trafficking and conspiracy charges.
Moore and Waddell remain wanted on arrest warrants related to the illegal firearms operation.
All charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
