The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the man killed in a high-speed rollover crash on Interstate 14 near Belton Sunday night as 24-year-old Malik Kendrell Hayes of Killeen.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Bryan Washko, Hayes was driving a 2022 Dodge Challenger eastbound on I-14 around 9:38 p.m. Troopers reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when, for reasons still under investigation, Hayes lost control near mile marker 292. The car left the roadway and rolled over multiple times.
Officials said Hayes was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
