He Said She Stabbed Herself to Death — Now He’s Charged With Her Murder
A man has been arrested months after reporting that his wife died by suicide, with investigators now alleging the circumstances surrounding her death point to homicide.
On October 23, 2025, deputies responded to a home in the 100 block area of Lafayette Street in London, Ohio, after receiving a report of a possible suicide. Upon arrival, they found a woman dead inside the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 37-year-old Rachel Long.
According to investigators, 35-year-old Kyle Long initially told deputies that his wife went into their bedroom while he remained in another room watching television.
Kyle Long claimed he heard laughing followed by screaming. When he went to check on her, he told investigators she was stabbing herself in the face and neck.
During a 911 call, Kyle Long told dispatchers, “My wife just stabbed herself. There’s no pulse. Blood all over the place.”
Authorities said Rachel Long owned a grooming business and was the mother of two children.
Investigators later learned that Rachel had been texting with a friend shortly before her death about attending a concert together. According to court documents, she did not appear upset or suicidal during the exchange.
During a follow-up interview with detectives, authorities said Kyle Long made statements that were inconsistent with what he told deputies on the day of the incident.
Investigators also said evidence collected at the scene indicated there had been a struggle between the couple. Court documents state that wounds found on Rachel Long’s hands appeared consistent with defensive injuries.
Detectives also said Kyle Long admitted during questioning that Rachel had recently told him she wanted a separation.
Authorities said investigators treated the death as suspicious from the beginning because Kyle Long was the only other person inside the residence at the time.
On March 5, 2026,, Kyle Long was arrested and charged with murder in connection with his wife’s death.
Officials said the delay in filing charges was due to the time required for investigators to review forensic evidence and complete reports from multiple agencies involved in the case.
Kyle Long is scheduled to appear in court on March 7, 2026.
Investigators with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office are asking anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
