According to police, Munyanyi was captured late this afternoon while hiding in the Nyika Area of Bikita, located in Masvingo Province. Authorities said the arrest was carried out with the assistance of local residents, who alerted police to his presence and helped secure him until officers arrived.

Investigators also recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the killings, a key piece of evidence that will form part of the murder case against the suspect. Police praised the community’s cooperation, stating that public involvement was instrumental in ending the dangerous manhunt without further loss of life.

The two slain officers have been identified as Bernard Chindeke (38) and McKenzie Chitowe (42), both members of the Harare CID Homicide Division. The detectives had tracked armed robbery suspects to Ndume Village when they were ambushed during an attempted arrest operation.

Police officials described the incident as a devastating loss to the force but emphasized that the suspect’s capture brings a measure of justice and safety to the region. Munyanyi is expected to face multiple charges, including murder, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm.

Authorities continue to investigate whether additional suspects were involved and urged anyone with further information to come forward as the case proceeds through the courts.
