UPDATE: Man Sentenced to 30 Years After Killing Roommate Over $15
On February 12, 2026, Sincir Malik Porter was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty in the July 2025 stabbing death of his roommate in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The victim was identified as 25-year-old Abdirahman Adan Abdirahman.
Minneapolis police responded on July 6, 2025 to a reported stabbing in the 4900 block of Hiawatha Avenue, where officers found Abdirahman on the ground suffering from a stab wound to the neck.
According to court documents, a witness told police that Porter and Abdirahman had been arguing when Porter stabbed him and fled the residence.
Surveillance video captured the two men fighting over $15. Video showed Porter stabbing Abdirahman in the neck. Abdirahman was seen taking a fighting stance before realizing he had been stabbed and collapsing.
When officers later located Porter, court records state he told them, “Yeah, you got me.”
In a post-Miranda interview, Porter admitted to stabbing Abdirahman and told investigators he had thought about killing him and his other roommates in the past. He also reportedly stated his roommates were lucky they did not get in his way.
Porter entered a guilty plea on January 14, 2026. He received credit for 222 days already served.
