Authorities are investigating after a woman, identified as Shutup Shy, was killed early Wednesday morning on westbound I-94 between 8 and 9 Mile Roads.
According to the St. Clair Shores Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:15 a.m. after receiving a report of a body lying in the right westbound lane. An unoccupied vehicle was found in the embankment near Shady Lane, and Shy was discovered in the freeway lanes. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators believe the woman may have crashed her vehicle and then walked into the freeway, where she was struck by another vehicle that fled the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
The crash caused major traffic disruptions, with all westbound lanes and the entrance and exit ramps at 9 Mile closed for several hours. The roadway reopened by 5:30 a.m.
Authorities have not released further details about the incident or the striking vehicle. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the investigation continues.
