Joey Raccuia Radford Car Accident: Radford University Baseball Player Joey Raccuia Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash, Loved Ones Mourn

Authorities in Radford have identified Joey Raccuia, 19, as the young athlete who was tragically killed following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on East Street.

According to the Radford Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Feb. 25 to the 10 block of East Street after receiving reports of a one-car accident. Upon arrival, officers and emergency responders immediately rendered aid. Despite their efforts, Raccuia—the sole occupant of the vehicle—was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation, and officials said no additional information will be released at this time.

Raccuia was a freshman middle infielder on the Radford University baseball team. He was a graduate of Radford High School and also attended PDG Academy in Fredericksburg.

He shared his name with his father, Joe Raccuia, who served as head baseball coach at Radford University for 12 seasons before resigning.

The loss has deeply impacted the Radford University community and the Highlanders baseball program. The team had been scheduled to begin a three-game homestand on Friday; however, as of now, no decision has been announced regarding whether those games will proceed as planned.
