Authorities have identified the man found deceased in the Green River on February 23 as 30-year-old Charles Ables of Colona.
According to the Henry County Coroner’s Office, Ables’ body was recovered Monday afternoon. An autopsy is being conducted in Peoria as officials work to determine the official cause and manner of death.
Earlier that morning, at approximately 10:56 a.m., officers with the Colona Police Department responded to a report of a loose dog at Nancy Trailer Court in Colona. While attempting to locate the dog’s owner in an area where he was known to stay, officers observed a body in the nearby Green River and requested assistance with recovery efforts.
The Colona Fire Department responded at approximately 11:19 a.m., arriving within seven minutes. Joint recovery efforts continued until about 12:48 p.m., when the man’s body was recovered from the river.
Colona Police and the Henry County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details have not yet been released pending the results of the autopsy and ongoing investigation.
