Pastor Killed After Ending Affair — Former Lover Sentenced to 20 Years
On February 24, 2026, a Shelby County judge sentenced Latoshia Daniels to 20 years in prison for the 2019 shooting death of Executive Pastor Brodes Perry at his apartment in Collierville, Tennessee. Daniels was also sentenced to 11 months and 29 days for reckless endangerment for injuring Perry’s wife, with the sentences ordered to run concurrently.
Brodes Perry, executive pastor of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis, was shot and killed.
Investigators said the shooting occurred on April 4, 2019, after Daniels drove from Little Rock, Arkansas to Tennessee, purchased a firearm, and waited for Perry to return home. Authorities stated Perry had recently ended an affair with Daniels. After an intense conversation inside the apartment, Daniels shot Perry. His wife, Tabatha Archie, was also struck in the shoulder and survived her injuries.
Daniels was convicted of second-degree murder after prosecutors sought a first-degree murder conviction, arguing the killing was deliberate and planned. Following the sentencing, Shelby County prosecutor Kevin McAlpin said the 20-year term fell within the expected range and stated the victims’ family appreciated the outcome, though “you can’t make it not have happened.”
During the hearing, Daniels tearfully apologized to the Perry family, saying she never intended to hurt anyone and expressing remorse for the pain caused. Defense attorneys cited her lack of criminal history, mental health struggles, and rehabilitation efforts while incarcerated. They confirmed plans to file a motion for a new trial and pursue an appeal.
In announcing the sentence, the judge rejected claims that Daniels acted under strong provocation, stating that heartbreak does not justify killing, while acknowledging her remorse and lack of prior criminal history before imposing the 20-year prison term
