Murder Suspect’s Bond Reduced Twice in Graduation Party Killing
In May 2025, 18-year-old Andrew Farias was shot and killed during his graduation party at a home in Uhland, Texas. The suspect in his death has since had his bond reduced twice.
Farias had just graduated from San Marcos High School and planned to attend Texas State University to study construction engineering.
According to court records, the party involved more than 100 people. Investigators said a fight broke out between two girls, and when Farias’ aunt attempted to intervene, 18-year-old Chad Lee-Gardner allegedly struck her in the head with a pistol. When Farias confronted him, authorities say Lee-Gardner fired two shots, killing him.
Lee-Gardner was arrested and charged with murder. His bond was initially set at $1 million but was later reduced to $350,000 and then again to $200,000.
Farias’ mother, Shannon Vasquez, said the bond reductions have left her feeling failed by the justice system.
“When you lower a bond for a murder, it’s not just about him, it’s about the family and what they’re going through,” Vasquez said.
Lee-Gardner remains charged with murder. The case is ongoing.
